Attitude: Is it Your Strength or Your Weakness?
There are more ways a person can be handicapped than to be robbed of physical abilities. I've seen able-bodied people completely disabled solely because their attitudes include the four most handicapping words in the English language: CAN'T, WON'T, DON'T and YEAH, BUT.
It is often said that in losing some faculties, others are heightened. The most impressive of these is when attitude is heightened. Years ago, noted motivational speaker, sales guru and mentor, Zig Ziglar said, "your altitude is determined by your attitude." How high you go in life is first and foremost dependent on your attitude.
Don't be handicapped by your attitude. You can do and be anything you want! The only thing stopping you is negative thoughts, fear, doubt or lack of self-confidence. You might even be too concerned about what others think, especially if you begin to act or think differently than your peers.
One of my favorite sayings is, "what other people think of you is none of your business." And guess what, other people don't really think about you that much! Too much potential is hampered and lost because people don't believe in themselves enough. You have the right to be as great as you can be. In fact, take it as a responsibility. You should develop yourself to your fullest potential or you are wasting your life. Find your talents and nurture them. There are hundreds of personal development courses around today that are available as support. This program, using horses as our focus, teaches us so much about developing outstanding human qualities.
Hang around people with positive and progressive attitudes. Don't talk to people who tell you that you can't or shouldn't. If I'd listened to all the negative, fearful, insecure or jealous people that told me I shouldn't do what I wanted to do, I would never have done what I have done. Successful people with positive attitudes will always support you unconditionally. Take only the advice of people who have the qualities and achievements in life that you admire. Learn to soar with eagles. It takes guts to change patterns, but the rewards are so worth it!
Every day I thank God for my life and my health and I work on my attitude and focus, constantly. Horses need us to be the best we can be. To become a Horseman, there are six keys you need to master - Attitude, Knowledge, Tools, Techniques, Time and Imagination. The first of those keys is ATTITUDE! I have learned real lessons on attitude. Some of the students in my program offer the most profound inspiration. They have not let anything stand in the way of following their dreams! I hope their tales are as inspiring to you as they have been to me.
